Assisted Living

A Little Help
Goes A Long Way

Our caring Assisted Living staff offers an extensive range of services in the privacy of one’s own residence. All residents maintain their highest level of self-reliance and independence.

What sets The Knolls of Oxford apart from other retirement communities in the area?

Our caring staff offers an extensive range of services in the privacy of one’s own residence. All residents maintain their highest level of self-reliance and independence. Our assisted living program reflects the same philosophy. There are various levels of assisted living, each based on the resident’s needs. We offer on-call nursing care 24-hours a day, right here on campus. Should you have an emergency, you’ll receive immediate attention from our staff. At The Knolls, you only pay for services that you need.

For some, freedom means having opportunities for intellectual growth, cultural enrichment, and social interaction. For others, it means being able to handle personal care and routine housekeeping without the assistance of others. Assisted living residences at The Knolls of Oxford support individual freedom by offering services to help residents achieve their highest levels of independence while respecting their needs and routines.

As a bridge between fully independent living and nursing care, assisted living offers a dignified and caring residential alternative that is significantly less costly than a nursing home. At The Knolls of Oxford, residents continue to enjoy an involved and productive life.

If you are looking for a retirement community for a loved one but are unsure if they should live in Independent Living or Assisted Living, we have put together a quiz to help determine which option is the most suitable.

The Knolls of Oxford Assisted Living Q&A

The length of the waiting list for assisted living varies depending on your desired apartment type.  Please contact our Marketing Manager, Cheryl Hampton at 524-7991, regarding the waiting list and application process.

If there is any question regarding financial approval for our community, we will review a completed application to determine financial approval before taking an application fee.

There is no entrance fee for current residents.

As a non-profit organization, we work to raise funds to provide benevolent care for our residents. This means that no resident will ever be asked to leave for financial reasons. Before your resources are depleted, you make an appointment with the Chief Financial Officer. He will work out a financial plan with you. Anyone who receives financial assistance through the Future Care Fund will remain confidential.

A full assessment will occur before moving in.  Once admitted, a Service Plan with each resident’s individual needs is established and updated as needs change. Residents may receive Home Health nursing, PT, and OT per physician order. They also may receive Hospice Services in their apartments.

Personal Care Assistants work 8-hour shifts therefore, residents generally have the same staff 7 am-3 pm, 3 pm-11 pm, and 11 pm-7 am.  Day shift staffing will run 4-6 personal care assistants and always at least 2 LPN nurses 7 am-7:30 pm. The 3-11 shift has 4-5 staff normally, 11 pm-7 am usually has 3  aides and there is one LPN from 7 pm-7:30 am.

Residents will have an initial Medical Form completed by the primary care physician prior to admission including a baseline mini-mental exam stating that the resident is appropriate for Assisted Living. Once admitted, for any appointments with outside physicians, the family will notify the nurses’ station of the date, time, type of appointment, and pick-up time. Nurses will make a packet of information to send to the doctor with the resident including a Face sheet, Current Medication List, Consultation sheet for notes from the doctor, and Physician Order sheet for any change in medication orders to be returned with the resident.
If the nurses administer the medications, the nurse gets the refills. If the nurse administers the medication, all medications must be in the Box Unit Dose system. Assisted Living uses Skilled Care Pharmacy. The family and resident are free to use their own choice of pharmacy as long as the medicine is packaged in the box unit dose system for non-narcotics. Skilled Care Pharmacy provides all narcotics for all residents- the nurse administers medication.
A day for cleaning will be assigned to each resident once a week. The personal care assistants are to collect trash daily and clean the dishes. A laundry day one time per week will be assigned. We ask you to provide the laundry basket with the resident’s name, laundry soap, and dryer sheets.
Changing of your bed linens, clean restrooms, including showers/tubs, toilets, countertops & sinks, clean kitchen, including countertops & sinks, floor care: sweep, mop, and vacuum.
No, it is included in your monthly fee.
Currently, during COVID-19, residents are remaining in Assisted Living and attend activities socially distanced. Sign-up sheets are for 10 residents for each activity.
Three hot meals are served each day; breakfast at 8:00 am, lunch at 12:00 pm, and dinner at 5:00 pm. Meals can be taken in the dining room which currently uses socially spaced seating, or delivered to your room.
During Non-COVID-19 time, families can utilize The Commons for private gatherings. Space must be reserved in advance by calling 513-524-7990.

The activity department staff and other personal care assistants would accompany residents in addition to the Knolls driver on any outings, during non-COVID restricted times. Resident face sheets are taken in case of an emergency requiring 911.
